Raw material purity (cost cornerstone): Purity is the biggest variable. The price difference between the national standard 99% and the high-end 99.995% can be 20%-30%. Low-purity pellets contain impurities such as iron and lead, which not only turn black after spraying but also contaminate your workpieces (e.g., causing discoloration of aluminum parts).
Microscopic morphology (determines lifespan): The cost of sphericity ≥85% (national standard passing grade) and ≥93% (high-end atomization method) is completely different. Irregular pellets are easily broken and consumed more than 30% faster than high-quality pellets, making frequent replenishment more expensive.
Hardness range (process matching): There is a significant price difference between soft (HV 35-45) and hard (HV 80-110) pellets, but the hardness error must be ≤±5HV. Pellet with too large a tolerance will over-cut and damage the mold texture.
Particle size distribution (efficiency trap): Low prices are often due to imprecise screening, resulting in a large amount of ultrafine powder (<0.1mm). This dust can clog machines and contaminate dust removal systems; the cost of manual cleaning far exceeds the small amount of money saved by buying pellets.
Packaging and Qualifications (Hidden Costs): Manufacturers that offer vacuum-sealed moisture-proof packaging and include a particle size distribution chart and material testing report with their shipments have higher costs. However, buying cheap, non-standard bulk pellets carries a significant risk of the entire batch being scrapped if they become damp, oxidize, and turn white.
